O.K. If you are not a motorhead, or gearhead, then a whole lot of talking about things like compression ratios,(14:1 for the new Mazda SKYACTIV-G engine) or Volcano-Top pistons, or torque-converter slippage elimination, or any of that other stuff you need an MIT graduate to translate means pretty much nothing, even if it all looks so impressive.

Speaking of impressive, oh look! It's a picture of Mazda's new SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine. In a nutshell, and without all the techno-speak, this engine delivers the fuel efficiency of a diesel while giving great performance never possible before! This is the engine that achieves a 14:1 compression ratio by the way.
(Sorry, we had to learn a bunch of stuff with the new Mazdas, and we like to show it off now and then!)

What is SKYACTIV? You know you have been wondering that since the first paragraph, and the answer is really easy. It's what happened when Mazda told their designers, engineers, and researchers that they should "reach for the sky" with what they were building. That's when Mazda threw out all the old notions and confined automotive thinking, and started to create vehicles which would have a 30% increase in fuel efficiency over the 2008 Mazdas, but have all the Zoom Zoom (and then some) of current Mazdas, because if the new technologies and developments were not worth driving, then they would not be worth building.

Have you seen the television commercial for that bloated,

lunkering van that blares "The Helion" by Judas Priest as the rear gate opens to reveal a Marshall amp and speaker stack worthy of KK Downing and Glen Tipton (Priest's guitar players). Oh, and then you see the head of a Lemmy clone floating in the stage fog. It is all so wrong in so many ways.

Mazda, on the other hand, has gotten it right once again with the new, redesigned,

Mazda Ricart does "CARS" Math

At Ricart Mazda we sat down with a calculator and did a little simple math involving the numbers you have heard thrown around whenever you hear about the "Cash For Clunkers" program.

The first number is one-billion, the amount of money the program has been given. That looks like this...$1,000,000,000. In case you haven't counted yourself, that's with nine zeroes!

The next number is $4,000, and that's the average amount to be given by the program when you trade an uneconomical vehicle.

So, if you divide $1,000,000,000 by $4,000, you get 250,000 that will get the cash. In today's automotive environment, that is 8 days worth of new car sales across the United States. Eight days!

The CARS program will certainly help many people to get a more economical ride, but the resources are limited, and will be honored on a first come, first served basis, so the early bird will indeed catch the worm. There’s more and more buzz in the air about the arrival of the new, 2009 Mazda6 at Ricart Mazda, and this time it’s from the accounting office. (You’ll see, just go with it.)

The twenty-four month lease on my 2007 Mazda6i Value has less than a year to go, and I really, really hope time flies, because I just had the chance to drive the new, redesigned 2009 Mazda6… and I want one bad!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I still love the ’07! It’s been a lot of fun to drive, the fuel injected 2.3 litre, 4 cylinder engine has given performance and economy, the design has given my family plenty of room, and my old 6 is easy on the eyes and always has been. It’s the perfect car… at least it was until I drove the 2009. Hey, there’s no need to take my word for it (although I think you should because I am an Eagle Scout, and my mom will vouch for me!), check out what a couple of sites had to say about the redesigned, 2009 Mazda6:

When the all-new 2009 Mazda6 was driven in a side by side test against in-class cars like Camry and Accord, Autoblog said, "Our seat-of-the-pants impression was that the all-new Mazda6 was undeniably the most enjoyable of the bunch to drive!!"

Being a second gen car, the all-new 2009 Mazda6 ups the ante with more Zoom-Zoom. PopularMechanics.com says, "Where the 2.5 liter four feels pretty peppy out on the road, the 272-hp V-6 is downright intoxicating!"

As if that’s not enough to pique your interest, if you could have seen the slack-jawed stares of the staff at Ricart Mazda in The Megamall when the first 2009 Mazda6 was backed down the ramp of the car-hauler, you’d probably already be at Ricart picking out your new 6 now! And that’s the dilemma I am in. Sure it’s a really good dilemma, having a great Mazda 6 in the driveway but wanting an even better, redesigned Mazda6.

RX... Prescription for a great sports car!

There’s zoom-zoom, and then there’s zoom- movin’ so fast you’re rippin’ the tires off their rims-zoom, which accurately describes the RX7 driven by Fred Ricart’s youngest son Ross to a second place finish at Sebring in SCCA ITS class racing last month in a car owned by Buzz Marcus, an RX7 with an impressive racing record of 31 victories in the series over the past few years making it the winningest car in SCCA history. Not letting his son forget who hit the track first, Fred Ricart also recently enjoyed success on the track, behind the wheel of an SM when he won the 12 hour SCCA ITA race at Homestead. Must be something in their blood!

While the Mazda RX may not be the right sports car for everyone, anyone serious about a performance car that will leave other brands standing still knows the Mazda is very tough to beat, especially if they have ever driven one on the track where they shine even more than on the public pavement.

Sure the RX is a hot commodity as driven off the showroom floor, but it really shines when given some tweaking, like ramping up the horsepower with supercharging from a Lysholm twin-screw compressor, an alteration you can have done through Ricart Mazda in the Ricart Megamall, Columbus, Ohio. The cost of updating a 1994 or newer RX is $5,500 and gives you the performance you want without changing the reliability or operation of your car, except you will be able to pass in sixth gear and will be driving what Buzz says is “...the finest car I’ve ever driven”!

If you have been reading this with your right big toe subconsciously pointing to the floor, then a trip to Ricart Mazda in the Megmall is in order for a test drive. And if you already have a 1994 through 1998 RX, Ricart will team with Speedsource to give you the chance to add a supercharger to yours in a street version that’s just as sweet as the RX that’s been tearing up the tracks. Mazda Miata Tops with Consumer Reports for Fun!

In“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, Ben Stein was the monotoned actor who played Ferris’ homeroom teacher, calling out students names in the most boring and lame voice imaginable, “Bueller…Bueller…” If you approach driving with all the flair and pizzazz of Stein in the movie, then the Mazda MX5 Miata is probably a bit more than your psyche can handle!

Chances are you know that the Miata is the world’s favorite sports car, heck, we’ve even mentioned it here in “The Room”. What you may not know is the Miata tops one of Consumer Reports categories for 2007. According to Consumer Reports, the 2007 MX5 Miata is the most fun car to drive! Gee, a quick, agile convertible that doesn’t cost two arms, a leg, and your first born child is the most fun car to drive. Who’d of thunk?

If you view your vehicle as an utilitarian necessity which only needs to get you there and back again, the Mazda Miata probably isn’t the right car for you. If you enjoy the thrill of tooling around with a smile on your face (but watch out for bugs in your teeth ‘cause the Miata is a convertible), then the MX5 is just what the doctor ordered to give your driving life a boost. What it all boils down to is this; are you a Ferris Bueller behind the wheel, or a Ben Stein?

Mazda makes green, fun!

Think back to when you were quite a bit younger. Remember that song Kermit the Frog sang on Sesame Street, "It's Not Easy Being Green"? Well not only does Mazda make some really green vehicles right now, but they also live up to Mazda's goal of making them a blast to drive too...which means it actually is easy to be green! (Sorry Froggy).

When Car and Driver released their list of "10 fun and efficient cars", there were no jaws dropping when Mazda made the cut with two vehicles, the MX5 Miata, and the Mazda 3. No other manufacturer can make the same claim.

Of course the Miata seems a natural for the list as it has, since its birth in 1989, become the world's favorite sports car, and with the most recent redesign, Mazda has brought a freshness to the MX5 which looks fondly back on the features which originally garnered love for the Miata over twenty-five years ago.

The Mazda 3 made the list...well, because it's the Mazda 3, and that pretty much says it all! Oh, and by the way, some of the other cars included on the list are the Tesla Roadster, BMW328i, and Mercedes-E320. Nice company for Mazda huh?

New Mazda, and Newer Mazda

Unless you speak Japanese, when you hear the word Ryuga (pronounced ree-yoo-ga), images of spaghetti sauce probably fill your head. But, if you do speak Japanese, you would know that Ryuga, the name of Mazda’s concept car to be introduced this week at the Chicago Auto Show means “gracious flow”…and one look at this striking concept and the name suddenly makes sense!

Don’t look for the Ryagu to show up on the showroom floor any time soon as it is an experiment in design which will likely lead to new styling cues and philosophies for future generations of Mazda vehicles. Incorporating different textures and engineering developments, the Ryagu, with its gull wings, fender flares, and sweeping body, looks like its flying down the road when it’s just sitting there.

From a peek into the future, to the future of the automotive world on the showroom floor today, the new Mazda crossover CX9 has arrived to great reviews from the critics, and lots of turning heads on the road! The Mazda CX9 is the seven passenger big brother to the CX7, and provides families a vehicle that drives like a midsize, but has the room of a full-size, which means that all seven passengers ride comfortably, even with adults in the way-back.

Combined with the 3.5 liter V6 engine is a six speed transmission that shifts like a champ for smooth running. Speaking of engines, no 60 thousand mile timing belt change for the CX9’s engine as it uses a chain instead of a belt.

Hellooo Mazda Peeps!

We have had fun with our Ford blog Ford Parking Only, we decided we would ad a blog, and eventually a forum for all things Mazda. This makes perfect sense when you realize that Ford and Mazda share a very close relationship, a fact many people just are not aware of.

We are very excited about the stories we have in the works, and the direction that Mazda is heading, and we look forward to sharing the Mazda ownership experience with you!
